To provide and execute technical development services and activities for CPB's websites, ensuring that they are user centered and provide interactive, reliable, and value-added information and content that will benefit the public broadcasting community, our viewers/listeners, our employees, and other key stakeholders.

Specific Duties

1. Builds and maintains reliable, secure, user-centered web applications using PHP and MySQL to meet the needs of internal and external users through successful online projects.

2. Performs QA analysis of existing applications and new projects to ensure their effectiveness and continued success in meeting user needs.

3. Performs/manages projects, working with users/contacts throughout CPB to ensure that web interaction capabilities, site content, and other required applications are available and accessible for effective user access and utilization. Projects include, but are not limited to, content management/ maintenance, grant processing systems (application submission, status tracking), job posting and search applications, and funding data management/displays.

4. Identifies, recommends and oversees implementation of structural and design improvements to the both CPB's internal and external web sites. Works with .IT. to identify the hardware, software and training needs of CPB's web publishers.

5. Conducts demos and trains and assists internal customers with varying skill levels on the use of web applications and tools.

6. Provides customer service activities, assisting users throughout the company in authoring documents for CPB's online services, and providing guidance and coaching to users relative to required CPB web site styles and formatting, as well as on the preparation of content for online usage. Works closely with the Communications and Public Affairs department to ensure daily site and content maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Design, Graphic Design or related discipline desired, or equivalent experience.

2. Demonstrated abilities in translating requirements and concepts in order to build and customize reliable, high performing, secure, and user-centered applications and dynamic web pages using PHP and MySQL (and/or similar scripting/ programming languages).

3. Three years of experience in web applications, programming and web site development with direct hands on knowledge of all facets and steps related to development -- from the user needs assessment to the evaluation of the project's success.

4. Three years of experience building real-world content management tools.

5. Two years experience in user-centered web design, interaction design, and/or information architecture.

6. Demonstrated ability writing elegant, cross-platform JavaScript.

7. Demonstrated understanding of Web development and related processes, as well as a technical knowledge of servers and operating systems, as well as database query languages.

8. Understanding of XHTML, CSS, and Ajax.

9. Project management skills with demonstrated abilities related to problem-solving, time management, achieving results, and focusing on critical details.

10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting effectively with others and providing effective customer service.

11. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

1. Familiarity with public broadcasting.

1. Close interaction with members of the Corporate and Public Affairs and Information Technology (IT) staffs to ensure effective corporate communications and implementation of web initiatives.

2. Interactions throughout CPB with departments in their efforts to deliver timely information and communicate messages and CPB's activities through both the CPB website and our intranet site.
